The Godly Heritage of Brewster Road Alliance Church

Origin
In 1932 Dr. Glenn V. Tingley, pastor of Birmingham Gospel Tabernacle, began holding tent meetings at 77th and 1st Avenue N. Prayer groups were formed. His father, Rev. N. E. Tingley was sent to the East Lake area. In 1933 the groups were united and organized, meeting in a rented store front on 77th Street.
Leadership – The following pastors came to serve:
1933-1936 | Rev. N. E. Tingley
1936-1938 | Rev. Ralph Kyle – The first full time pastor. A building was erected at Third Avenue and 77th Street. It was dedicated to God as “The Little Country Church†on June 12, 1938.
1939-1941 | Rev. Clyde Bowman
1941-1951 | Rev. R. W. Conner
1952-1960 | Dr. Walter G. Sandell – A parsonage was purchased in Roebuck Plateau.
1960-1965 | Rev. Paul Hokanson – Highway construction in 1962 forced the sale of the property. The church relocated to 85th Street where it remained until January 1992.
1965-1968 | Rev. Homer Klinsing
1968-1971 | Rev. Roland Trivett
1971-1974 | Rev. Edwin Henning
1974-1979 | Rev. Joseph Beck – A parsonage was obtained in Center Point.
1979-1988 | Rev. Vernon Evans
1988-1990 | Rev. H. Les Harmon
1990-1999 | Dr. Robert L. Slane – Changing demographics in the East Lake area led the church to review its ministry potential. After much prayerful study, the Brewster Road property was purchased in growing northeastern Birmingham. On September 20, 1992, a Christian Life Center was dedicated. The gym served as an auditorium for 10 years while church leaders planned for a new sanctuary.
1999-2002 | Rev. Timothy Henning
2002-2003 | Member Leadership – Due to Dr. Slane’s vision and fund raising and Pastor Tim Henning’s revision of the plans, the Church Board and contractors within the church made the new debt-free sanctuary a reality. We must never forget those who have gone before us. God provided through them and He will faithfully continue the work begun in our hearts. To God be the glory!
2003-Present | Dr. David A. Brown – On September 7, 2003, former pastors attended an afternoon service to join the congregation in dedicating the sanctuary to God. Facilities may be more visible than people to those who pass by, but the church members and adherents along with the pastors and leaders are the most important trophies of God’s grace, not the building. On April 3, 2004, a Spanish Ministry was begun on faith by Pastor Marco Requena. Also, as an extension of the church’s missionary heart- for the past two years, a summer work team of youth and adults have flown to La Serena, Chile to aid a sister congregation build their facility.
At Brewster Road Alliance Church, realize that people are the Church. Because of this we seek to build God’s Church by reflecting Christ’s life and love to others.
